Enjoy Dornogobi by train


Dornogobi (Eastern Gobi) province located in the south-east of the country and bordering on China, is part of the Gobi desert belt. Sand dunes Burden Gashuun, Tsagaan Els and Tavan Tolgoi stretch along the borders of the aimag (province). Dornogobi has mineral springs, such as those at Khalzan Uul, near Choir city. The fauna of Dornogobi includes argali, ibex, wild ass, black-tailed gazelle, white gazelle, and lynx.
 
Day 1. Ulaanbaatar/Sainshand
Ulaanbaatar/Sainshand, Dornogobi. Transfer to the train station and depart with train heading to Sainshand, Dornogobi aimag at 09:35. Packed lunch on the way. Arrival in Sainshand at 20:30 and direct transfer to base camp. Dinner and overnight in ger.
 
Day 2. Dornogobi
Dornogobi. After the breakfast at the camp start excursion with visit to 108 caves, where the monk and poet Danzan Ravjaa and his disciples meditated, and the 9 stupas, newly constructed to his memory. Few kilometers away you will discover petrified woods and dinosaur skeleton on sand. Continue further to Khamriin Khiid monastery, founded in 1820 by Danzan Ravjaa, but ruined later on during the purges of 1930s. Today the monastery represented by two new working temples with ten monks. Return to base camp for lunch. In the afternoon, visit to camel breeding family to get brief introduction to making of dairy products. Short camel riding session. Back to camp, dinner and overnight.
 
Day 3. Dornogobi
Dornogobi. This day we will make a longer trip to Tsagaan Els sand dunes, petrified forest in the south-west of the province with boxed lunch. In the afternoon, back to camp for dinner.Transfer to Sainshand, where you can visit the Museum of Danzan Ravjaa. Transfer to railway station to catch the night train back to Ulaanbaatar.
 
Day 4. Ulaanbaatar
Arrival in Ulaanbaatar, transfer to hotel.
