Waste disposal in Colombia: Muck and brass plates | The Economist

A court ruling in Colombia has officially allowed for wastepickers to be recognised as 'self-employed entrepreneurs'. This classification allows wastepicker collective groups to tender for collection contracts.

The Colombian collectives have been approached by other wastepickers around the world to hear more about how their legal argument worked, including Mongolians.

JICA's urban planning proposal for Ulaanbaatar

JICA has presented it's plans for Ulaanbaatar's urban development to 2030 to the Mongolian Government.
The plan proposes a high-density city model, with major apartment construction and ger district demolition, serviced by underground light rail. Decentralised residential, commercial, education, recreation and financial activity districts are proposed, replacing current mixed use areas including in the city centre.
